Friend --

I'm about to head to the Capitol to ask Congress to act on my plan to put Americans back to work.

Before I do, I wanted to write you directly to remind you that the fight to create jobs -- and provide the kind of economic security for middle-class families that's been slipping away over the last decade -- won't begin or end with the speech I give tonight.

What happens will be up to you. In the coming days and weeks, it will be up to you to pressure Congress to act -- or hold them accountable if they do not.

If you're with me, let me know. And the campaign will make sure you are looped into our efforts to support this plan.

Talk to you soon,

Barack

Friend --

We've got less than a week to go until the special congressional election in New York's 9th Congressional District on Tuesday, September 13th. Democratic candidate David Weprin, currently a member of the State Assembly, has worked long and hard to protect New York's seniors, students, and middle-class families -- but his opponent wants to make massive changes to Medicare and Social Security that would raise costs for future retirees.

We have to make sure that the choice is as clear to our fellow New Yorkers as it is to us.

Volunteers in New York are making calls and knocking on doors to get out the vote. We've made a lot of progress contacting voters, but because this = is a very competitive race we've got to reach out to everyone we can.

Will you help contact voters in Assemblymember Weprin's district? Here are the details:

What: Organizing for David Weprin

Where: 27 Union Square West, Suite 302
New York, NY 10014

When: Saturday, September 10th

President Obama and Democrats in Congress have achieved a lot -- the Affordable Care Act, Wall Street reform, and the repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell," to name a few. But we can't afford to lose this seat to the Republicans. If we want to keep up this progress and ensure that the economy recovers, we need folks like David Weprin in Congress.

Assemblymember Weprin can win this, but only if we all do our part.

RSVP to help him from New York by contacting voters in his district:

Friend --

A couple weeks ago, President Obama sat down for lunch with six of the campaign's summer organizers to thank them for their work and share some of the lessons he learned when he was a first-time community organizer himself.

He made the time because organizing is at the heart of this movement. It's how we're building our operation from the ground up over the next 14 months.

As we pause this weekend to celebrate the working men and women in our country who fought for the right to organize, it's worth taking a few minutes to listen to what the President had to say -- and think about how we'll organize this campaign in the months to come.

Check out this video from the President's lunch to hear him speak in his own words about what it means to organize. Then will you sign up to be a volunteer for 2012 in New York?

Video: President Obama on organizing

Yes, I'll sign up to volunteer.

Not right now, but I'll watch the video.

Labor Day has added significance in the political calendar -- it's seen as the moment when the race for the Republican nomination will really heat up.

That means we need to be prepared for even more false attacks on the President's record as our prospective opponents try to build their own campaigns.

But we'll win this election the same way we won the last one: through people stepping up locally, taking the lead in the communities they know best.

Some supporters will dedicate months to this campaign, while others will pop in for a few volunteer shifts here and there. Any time and expertise you can share helps grow this organization -- and brings people together to make our country greater.

That's a strategy our prospective opponents won't follow.

Watch the video, then sign up to volunteer in your community:

http://my.barackobama.com/Labor-Day-Volunteer

Our job from now until November 2012 is to keep working to bring more people into the political process. And that begins and ends with organizing.

Hope you have a great Labor Day weekend.

This Thursday, September 8th, volunteers will be making calls and knocking on doors in New York's 9th Congressional District for David Weprin. I hope you can make it.

Assemblyman Weprin is the Democratic nominee in the special congressional election on Tuesday, September 13th. He has a long record of getting results for New York's seniors, students, and middle-class residents, and he's focused on holding government accountable -- first as chair of the City Council's Finance Committee and now as an assemblyman. He's exactly the kind of leader we need in Congress.

You should join the event in New York on Thursday to help contact voters in David's district -- the calls you make could be the ones that put him over the top.

Here are the details:

What: Organizing for David Weprin

Where: 15 W. 26th St., Suite 4R between 5th and 6th Avenues
New York, NY 10016

When: Thursday, September 8th

From fighting for first responders to passing the Recovery Act and historic health care legislation, President Obama and Democrats in Congress have put together a long list of achievements.

If we're going to continue to build on this work and create jobs, we need strong allies like David in Congress. On the other hand, the Republican nominee supports making harmful changes to Medicare and Social Security, and has even put raising costs for seniors on the table.

The choice couldn't be clearer. RSVP here to help David and contact voters in New York:

Friend --

Today I asked for a joint session of Congress where I will lay out a clear plan to get Americans back to work. Next week, I will deliver the details of the plan and call on lawmakers to pass it.

Whether they will do the job they were elected to do is ultimately up to them.

But both you and I can pressure them to do the right thing. We can send the message that the American people are playing by the rules and meeting their responsibilities -- and it's time for our leaders in Congress to meet theirs.

And we must hold them accountable if they don't.

So I'm asking you to stand with me in calling on Congress to step up and take action on jobs:

http://my.barackobama.com/Time-To-Act

No matter how things go in the weeks and months ahead, this will be an important challenge for our organization.

It's been a long time since Congress was focused on what the American people need them to be focused on.

I know that you're frustrated by that. I am, too.

That's why I'm putting forward a set of bipartisan proposals to help grow the economy and create jobs -- that means strengthening our small businesses, giving needed breaks to middle-class families, while taking responsible steps to bring down our deficit.

I'm asking lawmakers to look past short-term politics and take action on that plan. But we've got to do this together.

I will deliver this message to Congress next week, but I'm asking you to stand alongside me today:

You probably weren't planning to watch Fox News tonight. But right now, the Republicans are holding their first Iowa debate. I'm tuning in -- and you should, too.

What we're seeing unfold on their side is a race to the right, where it's becoming difficult to distinguish the candidates from each other -- and from the Tea Party Republicans in Congress. I suspect that tonight it will become even more clear that this whole group is way out of the mainstream.

We've put together a helpful guide to a few of the more fascinating positions they've taken. Over the course of the night, we'll be paying close attention to what these candidates say -- and what they don't say. Will they backtrack? Will they double down? Will they hope we forget? Check it out, and pass it on:

Every day, I see Barack make choices he knows will affect every American family. That's no small task for anyone -- and more proof that he's earning every last one of those gray hairs.

This has been a busy week in Washington, but today happens to be Barack's 50th birthday. I'm writing to you because this year, the girls and I would like to do something a little different.

I'm asking friends and supporters of this campaign to wish him a happy birthday by signing his card, and sharing why you're on this journey with us.

Your names and notes will become part of a book that tells the story of this campaign -- who's building it, why we're in this thing, and what he means to us. We'll deliver a copy to Barack and send one to our campaign offices across the country.

Sign the card for Barack:

http://my.barackobama.com/Birthday-Card

I've known Barack for more than 20 of his 50 years, and we've been through quite a lot together.

It still amazes me that no matter how many decisions and distractions he's faced with every day, he's always able to focus on the bigger picture. One way he does that is by making time for stories and letters from people like you -- because he knows that this job isn't about him, but about the millions of folks around the country he's fighting for.

This next year will challenge us all to work harder than ever before, but the crucial thing is that you're here now, early on, helping to build this campaign.

I know that, like Barack and me, you have your own reasons why, so I hope you'll take a moment to sign the card and share your story with him and other supporters of this campaign.

Tomorrow -- Wednesday, August 3rd -- volunteers will gather at campaign house meetings across the country to continue laying the groundwork for the 2012 campaign.

This kind of organizing work matters more than ever. Now that President Obama has reached a compromise with congressional leaders to meet our financial obligations and reduce our debt, it's up to us to get the word out about how important this agreement is and why it's crucial to have a leader like President Obama in office.

Tomorrow, volunteers will talk about how to build this campaign at the local level -- can you attend the meeting in New York?

At this week's house meetings, we'll discuss the best way to keep bringing new folks into the political process in our own communities and neighborhoods. It's important that folks hear about the President's accomplishments from their own friends and neighbors -- from forging this new bipartisan debt compromise to reforming Wall Street, repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and passing the historic Affordable Care Act.

Wednesday also happens to be the day before the President's 50th birthday -- and our work to build this campaign through this kind of solid grassroots organizing is the sort of gift he'll appreciate most.

Will you plan on setting aside a small part of your day on Wednesday for a house meeting? RSVP now to attend in New York:

As someone who got his start as a community organizer, President Obama's entire career has revolved around the idea that ordinary people working together can do extraordinary things.

So I hope you can take part in marking his 50th birthday next week in the way he would appreciate most: with a solid showing of grassroots action in every corner of the country.

This Wednesday, August 3rd, campaign volunteers will get together for house meetings in all 50 states. We'll plan local events, strategize about how to grow the campaign in our communities, and talk about how to spread the word about the President's accomplishments to our friends and neighbors.

Best of all, folks will also have the chance to join an exclusive live video conference with President Obama at their house meeting.

Because the President is focused on the job we elected him to do, it's up to us to take the lead in building this organization on the ground.

That's why house meetings and neighborhood teams are at the core of our strategy. By building this campaign at a local level and putting grassroots volunteers in charge, we're able to reach voters the best way we know how: through folks they know, in their own communities.

And while there will be other chances to get involved as the campaign heats up, attending a meeting on Wednesday is the best way for you to help plan what the campaign will look like in your community in the coming weeks and months.

It's also the only chance you'll have to participate in this special video conference with the President.

Friend --

I'm the national training director at Obama for America. My job is to develop the programs and resources our staff and volunteers use to teach others how to grow this campaign in their communities.

I'm writing because you or someone you know might want to be among a group of people who will play the leading role in our grassroots strategy this fall. They're called our fall fellows.

By now you've probably heard of our summer organizers program, through which more than 1,500 full-time volunteer organizers have stepped up as the next generation of leaders in this movement. These folks have been the focus and the heart of our movement all summer, and though each and every one of them will remain a part of this organization, their time as Summer Organizers ends next month.

The job of fall fellows is to pick their work up and carry it forward into the months to come.

Our fall fellows are going to engage new volunteers on front porches and over the phones. They'll register new voters and develop relationships with other organizers and supporters on campuses and in communities. The people selected will be on the front lines of the most important work we do as a campaign: bringing people together at the local level.

Apply to be a fall fellow right now -- or pass this message along to someone else you think would be great:

http://my.barackobama.com/Fall-Fellows

Organizing is tough work. I started out as an organizing intern in Iowa in 2007, and I can tell you firsthand that the hours can be long, often extending late into the evening and over the weekend. But this will be one of the most rewarding and inspiring things you'll ever do. It's through organizing that I've met some of my closest friends and learned the skills I use in my job every day.

So even if you're not in a position to join us part- or full-time in the months to come, I really hope you'll forward this message to someone you know who might be.

This kind of organizing isn't just how we plan to win this election. It's a reflection of the kind of politics that we believe in -- the kind the President himself practiced as a young organizer working with communities devastated by factory closings in Chicago.

No experience is required -- you might be a veteran organizer or a first-time volunteer. And if you happen to be a college student, you can work with your school to earn credit through this program.

Bottom line: No matter how old you are or where you come from, it's not too often you get a chance to do something like this.

Apply now to be one of our fall fellows -- or share this message with someone you think might be interested:

This morning, a group of public servants showed up to work at a brand-new agency created to protect everyday Americans from the abuses of Wall Street.

They're the folks of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and they'll be the cops on the beat protecting consumers from predatory credit card and mortgage lenders, bait-and-switch creditors, and anyone trying to make a quick buck by deceiving or manipulating Americans who are just trying to secure their financial future.

Many Americans don't know it, but this bureau is just one part of a sweeping Wall Street reform law -- the most pro-consumer and pro-taxpayer reform of our financial system since the Great Depression -- that President Obama signed a year ago today.

Watch this video to get a quick overview of the law, and a briefing on the special interests trying to undermine it:

Learn more about Wall Street reform

Whether you watch the video or not, please share this email with someone.

It's important that everyone knows what this law means for all of us. Simpler mortgages. Clearer credit card rates, fees, and rules. Fairer loan terms. It's based on the simple idea that if you make sure that people get clear information, they'll make the financial decisions that work best for them.

And we can all rest a little easier knowing that our common financial future is more protected from the irresponsibility of a few. This law made structural reforms to ensure that the financial crisis we experienced in 2008 never happens again and that taxpayers aren't on the hook to pay for Wall Street's risky bets.

It's up to you to make sure more people know about this. Most Americans don't have all the details on how this law is working for them, and it's our job to change that.

Take a look, and be sure to pass this one on:

http://my.barackobama.com/Wall-Street-Reform

Amazingly, each and every Presidential candidate on the other side opposes this law.

And the same opposition that tried to block it more than a year ago is still alive and well.

Right now, lobbyists are at work trying to weaken the tough regulations this law imposes.

That's no accident -- its provisions are designed to rein in the Wall Street, credit card, and mortgage banking interests these people represent.

As we know, there aren't a whole lot of high-powered lobbyists in Washington looking out for the common good of everyday families.

That's exactly why this law is necessary, and why our growing organization in all 50 states is so important. It's up to us to make sure our friends and neighbors know about it. Watch our video about Wall Street reform today -- and then pass it on:

We're filing this campaign's first financial report with the Federal Election Commission on Friday.

You own this campaign, so you deserve to get this news first.

And thanks to you and other supporters all over the country, there's a lot of good news to share.

I'm not going to steal my own thunder here in the email -- you've got to watch the video to get the news about what we've raised, how we're spending it, and what's next:

Get your first look at our campaign's first financial report

The Washington chatter around the report we're releasing has focused on one number: the sum total we've raised.

But other numbers that the pundits often ignore -- like how many field offices we and the DNC have open, how many one-on-one conversations we've had with potential supporters, and how many people have already decided to own a piece of this campaign -- tell the real story of our campaign.

All those numbers are in the video, and they're the ones you should be proud of today. Watch it now:

http://my.barackobama.com/July-Report

One more thing: It's a fact that our opponents won't have hundreds of thousands of people giving whatever they can afford -- so they'll be relying heavily on money from two sources to fund an unprecedented barrage:

1. Washington lobbyists and special interests whose explicit aim is to influence the federal government in any way they can.

2. Outside groups that don't have to disclose a word about what they've raised or who they've raised it from, like one of Karl Rove's political organizations. His groups have set an astounding $120 million fundraising goal in their campaign to tear down President Obama.

The threat to our success from these determined groups -- acting solely in their own interest, not the public interest -- is real, and it's growing. And it's going to take serious commitment and vigilance from all of us to withstand their attacks while still building the grassroots campaign we'll need to win.

We're off to a solid start. But this is just the beginning.

So now, back to work.

Thanks,

Messina

The President's 50th birthday is coming up on August 4th.

Help grow this campaign today

But he doesn't need a post on his Facebook wall.

The President has been clear that while he focuses on the job he was elected to do, he's relying on us to get this campaign off the ground.

The best gift any of us can give him is real organizing to bring more people into this campaign.

So here's a challenge: Do you think you can bring 50 new people into this campaign for President Obama's 50th birthday?

You decide what sort of organizing is right for you:

-- you can collect 50 "I'm in" commitments;
-- you can inspire 50 donors to give;
-- or you can get 50 people to attend a campaign event or events.

You can even do some of each. It's your choice.

If you accept the challenge, click below to get started. Once you start reaching out to people, we'll help track your progress for you, invite you to a conference call to share tips and encouragement, and let you know as you reach milestones on the way to 50.

Sign up and start making calls to supporters in your area, or choose another action to help grow this campaign. You can start right now:

http://my.barackobama.com/50-for-50

It's important to click that link and let us know if you accept the challenge.

That's because when you reach your goal of 50 new people, we'll enter your name into a drawing to join the President, his family, and other supporters at his 50th birthday celebration in Chicago next month.

The deadline to reach your goal of 50 new supporters is July 28th, just a few days before the President's birthday. So let's get moving -- there are 50 people out there who need to hear from you.

Pick which action you'd like to start with, and start reaching out to them now:

Friend --

This Independence Day weekend, I'd like to ask you to get involved.

Volunteers will be gathering at events around the country to serve their communities, sign folks up to join our campaign, and bring new voices into the political process.

I hope you'll join in. The 2012 campaign is still just getting started, and these events are how we begin organizing in communities like New York.

Can you make it? Here are the details:

What: Getting involved on Fourth of July weekend

Where: 75 9th Ave
New York, NY 10011

When: Sunday, July 3rd

Along with Organizing for America, we are building the largest grassroots effort in the history of American elections.

From Texas to Pennsylvania, we're going to throw out the old political playbook and create something entirely volunteer driven and neighborhood based. We want you to be a part of it from the beginning.

So as you celebrate our country this holiday weekend, I hope you'll invest some time in shaping its future. Join us for an event in your community, or create your own:

If you're planning on donating to this campaign at any point in the next 16 months, you should do it now.

Tonight at midnight is not just your last chance to enter the "Dinner with Barack and Joe" contest, it's also a hugely important fundraising deadline for this campaign -- the first time we'll report on our progress to the public and the press.

The next few hours are critical for us. Please donate $5 or more today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/Dinner

Come next fall, people might not remember this date -- or make the connection between the strength of our campaign then and the steps we took in these early months. But anyone worth their salt in politics knows tonight is one of the most important tests we'll face as a campaign this year. Let's hit it out of the park.

Thanks,

We're closing the books on the first fundraising quarter of the 2012 race at midnight tomorrow.

A lot of folks will be interpreting our numbers as a measure of this campaign's support.

They're not wrong, but they are wrong about why.

We measure our success not in dollars but in people -- in the number of everyday Americans who've chosen to give whatever they can afford because they know we've got more work to do.

I'm asking you to be one of them. Please donate $5 or more before midnight tonight:

June 30th at 11:59 p.m. is the first big deadline of this campaign. At that moment, we'll close the books on this financial quarter and begin preparing our fundraising report to the Federal Election Commission, the press, and the public.

Our opponents are chasing Washington lobbyists and special-interest PACs for big checks ahead of the deadline. To them, and to most of the pundits, campaigns are all about how many millions of dollars each candidate can raise.

We disagree. Of course we have a budget and financial goals. But we believe that the true strength of our campaign is the number of everyday people owning a piece of it.

So we refuse money from Washington lobbyists and special-interest PACs. And rather than setting a goal of millions of dollars, we're setting a goal of 450,000 people owning a piece of this campaign by the June 30th deadline.

This report will serve as the definitive record of who was there to build this campaign from the very start, and you should be part of it. Please donate $5 or whatever you can afford and help us hit our goal:

https://donate.barackobama.com/Deadline

Help us hit our goal today.

A lot of people out there are wondering whether this campaign can inspire the kind of grassroots support that has been the foundation of our success. A lot of people out there are already saying we can't.

So we've got something to prove.

What happens between now and Thursday will shape the story of how the 2012 race began.

Help write that story with a donation of $5 or more here:

Friend --

If you missed it last night, you should take a few minutes to watch President Obama's address to the nation about our policy in Afghanistan:

The President's address marks a major turning point in a nearly decade-long conflict. He announced his plan to start withdrawing our troops from Afghanistan next month, fulfilling a promise he made a year and a half ago to begin the drawdown this summer.

To put it simply: when this president took office, there were 180,000 troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now, the combat mission in Iraq has ended, Afghanistan will be fully responsible for its own security by 2014, and there will be fewer than 100,000 American troops in the two countries by the end of this year.

As President Obama decisively concludes two long-running wars, he is refocusing our foreign policy to more effectively address the threats we face and strengthen America's leadership in the world as we do.

I'm writing to you because this transformation has already begun to reshape the policy debate -- foreign and domestic -- in the 2012 election. As the President said last night: "It is time to focus on nation building here at home."

The outcome of this debate will have consequences for all of us, so it's important that you understand the policy and help inform the conversation.

You can read the President's remarks below, or watch the address on the White House website here:

As families around the country get together to celebrate fathers today, I'm thinking about dads like Alex.

Alex is the father of two boys and two girls, ages six to 13. During the week, he works the 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. shift as a front-desk supervisor at a Seattle hotel. After work and on the weekends, he devotes his time to a summer organizing program that's giving more than 1,500 first-time organizers the training they need to help build this movement in their communities.

He says he hopes this organizing work will help teach his kids the power one person can have -- that if "they see something that needs to be changed, they know they can make a difference."

I wanted to share a video of Alex explaining what prompted him to join this program and devote his summer to this work.

I was really moved by what he had to say. Take a look, and share it with a dad you're thinking about today:

Today, I'm also proud of my husband, the man who drove our first daughter and me home from the hospital 13 years ago next month, determined to be the kind of father he hadn't had for himself.

Barack often says he decided that day that if he could be anything in life, he'd be a good dad, and he dedicated himself then and there to making sure our daughter had every opportunity he could provide.

When it comes down to it, that's why we're all here -- Barack, Alex, myself, and everyone who's part of this campaign. We're all working to make sure we leave our kids with a country that's fairer and more full of opportunity -- just as our parents did for us.

Thank you for being part of that work, and part of this campaign.

Wishing you a happy Father's Day,

Michelle

I've worked for President Obama for almost five years -- but I've never actually sat down for dinner with him.

That's why I'm excited about (and maybe a little jealous of) the opportunity you have to join the President for dinner. He's going to sit down and swap stories over a meal with four supporters, and you could be one of them.

You should really give this a shot. Please donate $5 or more today to be automatically entered for the chance to sit down for dinner with the President:

It's not often you get to talk to the President one on one about your hopes for the country and your ideas for this campaign. So I hope you'll put your name in the running.

Friend --

I've set aside time for four supporters like you to join me for dinner.

Most campaigns fill their dinner guest lists primarily with Washington lobbyists and special interests.

We didn't get here doing that, and we're not going to start now. We're running a different kind of campaign. We don't take money from Washington lobbyists or special-interest PACs -- we never have, and we never will.

We rely on everyday Americans giving whatever they can afford -- and I want to spend time with a few of you.

So if you make a donation today, you'll be automatically entered for a chance to be one of the four supporters to sit down with me for dinner. Please donate $5 or more today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/Dinner-with-Barack

We'll pay for your flight and the dinner -- all you need to bring is your story and your ideas about how we can continue to make this a better country for all Americans.

This won't be a formal affair. It's the kind of casual meal among friends that I don't get to have as often as I'd like anymore, so I hope you'll consider joining me.

But I'm not asking you to donate today just so you'll be entered for a chance to meet me. I'm asking you to say you believe in the kind of politics that gives people like you a seat at the table -- whether it's the dinner table with me or the table where decisions are made about what kind of country we want to be.

It starts with a gift of whatever you can afford.

Please make a donation of $5 or more today, and we'll throw your name in the hat for the upcoming dinner:

https://donate.barackobama.com/Dinner-with-barack

I've said before that I want people like you to shape this campaign from the very beginning -- and this is a chance for four people to share their ideas directly with me.

Hope to see you soon,

Barack

Our first national day of action is this Saturday, June 18th -- and one of the first events is in New York.

Folks like you will be registering voters and getting new people to say "I'm in" to help build a strong organization locally.

That work starts with a strong turnout on Saturday. The more people we can get involved now, the more extensive the network of volunteers will be -- which means we can reach more voters with the facts about what President Obama and his allies have accomplished, and what they plan to accomplish in the future.

Sign up here -- and then forward this message to five friends:

Friend --

We can't leave any matches on the table.

This donor-matching drive ends tonight. Since this morning's message, there are still people who've stood up to inspire someone's first gift to the campaign -- and who haven't been matched by a new donor.

I need your help to match every last donation. That's the only way to build the organization President Obama needs to beat Republican challengers who are full-time candidates, able to gather money and support without day jobs to worry about. So to get us where we need to be, and with more than 15,000 people joining this matching drive so far this week, I'm setting a goal to reach 20,000 before our deadline at midnight.

My team calculated how many new donors this goal translates to in your area. Here's where we stand:

GRASSROOTS MATCH
Deadline: Midnight tonight
National Goal: 20,000 new donors
Goal in New York: 30

One of these people -- maybe even someone in your neighborhood -- is waiting to double the impact of your first donation to the campaign.

Can you help us meet our goal by making a matched gift of $5?

Make a match by midnight tonight.

When you match someone's pledge, you'll be able to see their name and hometown, and even exchange a note with them.

We know that we can compete without compromising our values -- measuring our goals not just in dollars raised, but in people who've taken ownership of this campaign.

Another supporter is waiting on you to jump in. They've done their job to help grow this campaign -- now it's time for you to do yours.

Donate $5 or more by tonight and get matched:

Friend --

Here's something lovely for you.

Thousands of people so far have made their first donations to the 2012 campaign through our grassroots donor-matching drive, which ends today. As they did, they used our tool to send a note to the person matching their donation.

A physician in Massachusetts offered to match someone's first donation, writing:

I am a primary care doc. I see the impact that health reform can and will have every day. Join me in supporting President Obama's re-election campaign. We need to make good on our promise to those who need our health care system the most right now, and the rest of us who will someday need it to be affordable and accessible when we will need it the most.

A teacher in Colorado made her first donation, writing back:

So glad to see a health care professional speaking up for health care reform! Thanks for the match!

These individual connections make it perfectly clear how we plan to grow this grassroots campaign: one supporter at a time.

Want to be able to say you're a part of it? This donor-matching drive ends at midnight tonight, but you still have a few hours to make a connection with someone and double your impact for the campaign by matching another supporter's $5 donation today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/June-2011-Match

As Messina mentioned last week, we're making tough budget calls right now, so the people who give today will help shape how this campaign unfolds -- how many offices we can expect to be able to open and how many organizers we can hire.

You can help us build the critical infrastructure we need by taking ownership of this campaign today and asking someone to do the same -- you never know who you'll motivate to join the campaign, and who you'll meet.

Thanks,

Someone is about to tap you on the shoulder.

It's someone who's already made a donation to the 2012 campaign -- and who's willing to give again if you'll step up and take ownership of it, too.

They've made a promise to match your first donation to this campaign, so if you decide to give $5 now, you'll double your impact.

Will you?

https://donate.barackobama.com/2011-Grassroots-Match

We're not just gathering donations here. We're gathering people.

We didn't get this far by doing things the usual way. Our campaign doesn't take money from Washington lobbyists or special-interest PACs.

We're doing this the right way -- with a whole lot of people like you taking the lead.

One of our earliest supporters is prepared to make a second donation in order to persuade you to make your first. It's that kind of commitment that creates a grassroots campaign capable of changing the outcome of an election -- and capable of changing the course of this country.

That's the spirit that drives us. And it starts with a tap on the shoulder.

Now all you have to do is take them up on the offer. Give it a go:

https://donate.barackobama.com/2011-Grassroots-Match

Thank you,

Friend--

If it were easy to do the big, meaningful things we believe will make our country better -- if it were quick -- someone would have done those things long before any of us showed up.

We've chosen to do something hard.

You know that our victories so far have been hard won: taking the difficult steps necessary to put our economy back on track, reforming Wall Street excess despite an army of lobbyists against us, and making health care more affordable and accessible despite well-organized opposition by those who profit from the status quo.

You also know we have not yet done everything we set out to do -- not nearly.

But that's a reason to work harder, not to let up. That's why we're building this campaign now. And you have to take ownership of it.

So I will be direct: Can you step up and make a donation of $5 to get us started?

https://donate.barackobama.com/Begin-Again

We've had the chance to make historic changes that touch every American: from passing a law that says women should get an equal day's pay for an equal day's work to removing 100,000 troops from Iraq.

Those things and every other important change we've made happened because people like you built an organization to win an election in 2008.

The stakes are even higher this time.

As I've spoken with supporters who are helping get this campaign started, I've met folks who are frustrated by the pace of change.

I understand that. But we knew this wouldn't be easy. The kind of change we're working for never comes easily.

Now is the time to begin again, and build the campaign that will shape our country's future.

Thank you,

Barack
